I thought I had my own cyber space stalker.

Exciting times and funny quick story over at jbulie’s blog.

You know how facebook refreshes sometimes and the picture comes later?

Well, I was new to blogging four months ago and worried about whackos out there. I just can’t stand the idea of some crazy comments from a stranger with a crazier nickname leaving mean messages on my blog, like

You suck, go back to writing in your diary, loser.

I refreshed my facebook page and there was a comment written without a name or face. It freaked me out. I was certain that someone had hacked into my computer.

I kept staring at it thinking, how in the world could someone I don’t know leave me a comment on my page without a name or picture.

The comment was “I like women in red dresses.”

It was around 9p, and I was a little bit tired. I thought oh, great, someone now has access to all of my personal information. I started changing all of my settings to private and I notified the facebook police.

The following morning, I woke up and checked my facebook account and it was friend of mine. His picture and name just hadn’t refreshed. I thought for certain it was a cyber criminal. Turns out it was my real life friend.

We can all let out a sigh of relief. No cyber space stalkers here. Just crazy friends who like women in red dresses.

And the winner is…

Michelle at Bleeding Espresso, with number 2. Congratulations! Thanks everyone for playing. You’re comments are awesome. Wish I could make each and every one of you an individualized painting for you or a loved one.

Brad, Angelina and kids graced us here in Bologna on Sunday

Brad, Angelina and Family in Bologna on Sunday

One of the most beautiful couples in Hollywood came to my city, Bologna, on Sunday, March 14th to see the city and have a fantastic authentic Italian lunch. The film stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, accompanied by four of their six children had lunch at Osteria dei Poeti, near Via Castiglione, in the center of town.

The two actors have been staying in Venice since late February. They are reported to be filming ‘The Tourist’ with Johnny Depp.

Brad and Angelina, regardless of reports in gossip magazines are happily intact. The family is reported to have rented Palazzo Mocenigo, a historic beautiful palazzo over the Grand Canal in Venice for three months.

Osteria dei Poeti Bologna

On Sunday, the gorgeous couple made a real quick trip to Bologna. They showed up under the famous twin towers around 1:00 p.m., stayed for a couple of hours, had lunch and then went back to Venice.

The owner of the Osteria de’ Poeti, Maria Luisa Brunelli broke the scoop. She said their Italian guide made the reservation. He called and said he was coming with very important people, wihtout saying who it was.

They never imagined that after a couple of hours, Brad, Angeline and their kids would walk into our restaurant, reported the owners.

Just like my mother-in-law makes.

The gorgeous stars asked for a private room and to please not to be photographed. They were only seen by some other customers. Other customers didn’t recognize Brad and Angelina due their discretion and down to earth style.

They are both beautiful, said Maria Luisa Brunelli, the owner of Osteria dei Poeti. They are two loving parents. Angelina was very simple, without an ounce of makeup, with a gray coat, sweater and pants. Brad was just wonderful, with a jacket and his ‘usual’ hat. He was a dear, true gentlemen, the owner reported.

Brad and Angelina were there with four of the six children. We were lucky enough to have their two new twins, too!

The menu was typically Bolognese.

For lunch, they had the typical apetizer which is made up of delicious Italian luncheon meats, such as salami, prosciutto di Parma, Bologna’s yummy mortadella, Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, Colonnata bacon together with a caprese salad, tomato, mozzerella, olive oil and basil.

Then they had tortellini in broth. The children being so polite asked for macaroni with olive oil. Afterwards, they had two Cordeun Bleu steaks, and they finished their meal with ice cream and ricotta cake with berries. Their drink order was plain water and Coca Cola. So simple. So elegant.

After lunch they gave us their compliments and were graceful guests. They spoke in English. They told the owners that the food was excellent and the room so nice, said the proud owner.

They were really nice and it was a huge pleasure to have them as guests. They also said that Bologna is a beautiful city. Then they left to Venice, where I believe are making a movie.

Learning how to blog.

I’m just playing with life guys waiting for my teacher to walk over here and tell me, hey you can’t write that. I’m no media mogul, although my sister called me a guru. Thanks sis.

It’s all so not serious. If we can’t play a little bit in life, then what fun is it?

This is my new shiney blog button ~ you may steal it. Yes, just drag it. :)

Thank you God for giving me a job I love where I work with smiling children.

It’s probably not the best habit to drive with the car mirror pointing towards myself. If you know me at all, you know I’ve been there. I’ve had the ups and the downs just like all of us. I make a decision every day to focus on the good. Focus on God.

I’m just making a decision here right now to play, have fun and be happy. I pray you are smiling, I thank you for your visit.

I’m organizing a giveaway starting this Saturday for probably four days. I was thinking about giving away another painting. Probably a small one due to mailing reasons from Italy. I guess I could do a big one too, but it would have to be sent rolled up. You’d have to frame it. Ikea frames are the perfect size.

As always I did some research on giveaways where I came across a super popular blog who wrote, I don’t like reading and I don’t like writing. I just had to stop short in my tracks and thought, Well then, why did you start a blog?

I just don’t get it. I don’t get a lot of things. But you know what, I’m willing to learn. I know I’m doing a good job because my junior high school students stop by and leave me positive comments. I know I’m doing well, when just one of my friends says, hey I can do that too. And most of the times much better than me. God bless you.

8th grade scholarship due month end.

There’s a scholarship for $500 worth of books at my junior high school approved by the city and aimed at only 60 kids in our school in the 8th grade. I asked the teachers if they were promoting this to the kids and they said they didn’t have time.

My jaw dropped to my chin. I LOVE competing and I love a good contest. All the kids have to do is write an essay about the 25th of April commemorating national freedom here in Italy. NONE of the kids wanted to do it.

You know what I did? I asked a janitor to get me a large piece of paper. She did. God bless you Silvia. She gave me three big blue poster size pieces of thick paper. During my lesson, I cut them into 9 long strips, and slowly but surely convinced nine students to participate, just by giving them the necessary tools. I guarantee you one of my students will win.

It's thanks to our forefathers who have fought for our freedom that we can sleep well at night.

With their strips, they folded them in half and made a book like looking presentation where they were told to put a title on the front, a collage on the inside front cover and an essay, or even magazine cut out words, showing how lucky we are to be living in peace. It’s thanks to our forefathers who have fought for our freedom that we can sleep well at night. Except for my insomnia:)

You want to know why? Because I BELIEVE IN THEM. Education is the key to success. I had the hardest and saddest history lesson today again about wars around the world. I was told there are 27 current wars. It breaks my heart every time. The one sentence that stood out for me was The kids don’t have alternatives. when they grow up in violent war ridden country. Its so sad.

A quick plug goes out to the wonderful sweet girls who came to talk to us from Emergency. They had three rules to help kids in need providing schools and hospitals to countries in war. Their offer was free service to anyone and neutrality.

Peace to you all. Promote peace. Promote believing in yourself. Tell your children they are awesome and they are our future. Give them what they need to make a difference.

Thanks for reading. As always please leave a comment.

Today we are joining the Pre Hab group on facebook as a preventive measure. Please join too.

jbulie’s blog helps friend start blog earning 800 new visitors in first 2 days.

Isn't it just great to see a friendly face after a long time?

I don’t think I can find one person out there who can argue that the launch of Tana’s blog, From Kenya with Love, last week was a complete success.

This is a clear case of the student jumping leaps and bounds over the teacher. That’s what I mean when I say that the learning is in the doing. I learn from you. It’s hard to explain, but here goes.

A couple of weeks ago Tana won a copy of my book Zero to Blog on my facebook giveaway. She told be that before she got to page 53 she had published her blog.

That’s when the journey began. The two of us have been laughing, publishing, growing and sharing. I hope you are joining us for the fun and thinking about how you too are going to start your blog.

Why did Tana’s blog get 800 visitors in the first two days it was up?

I’ll tell you exactly why.

1) She read my downloadable book Zero to Blog.
2) She took a risk.
3) She’s funnier than heck, sometimes silly too.
4) She tells REAL stories from the heart that are changing lives.

Can we all just have a group hug and say, well done?

laughed so hard

In my cool skype interview with her that lasted a couple of hours I found out some truly amazing information about what it is like to live in Africa.

I think she might have learned something about living in Italy.

Here’s the roundup.

♥ Some people pay $100,000 bucks for a Safari.

♥ It’s dangerous as you want it to be. Like when I moved to Italy and everyone said watch out for your purse. They say the same about Americans. It’s just fear guys. Don’t let it stop you from living.

♥ Oh ~ love you.

Like any country you learn where to go and where not to, there is crime everywhere in the world. That should not stop you.  Just learn how to protect yourself, listen to your instincts.  You get to know yourself even better by putting yourself out there. It is an amazing world with colourful people and wildlife.

♥ My sweet long blonde haired blue eyed goddess, single mom of three equally beautiful daughters had a charmed life that I think it is fair to say we can all envy. She GREW up with a lion raised in captivity, named Zamba.

She also suffered the heart ache and loss that comes with that intense love, I can only imagine.

♥ We spoke about how wonderful animals are for therapy, especially used for kids in schools. The way it works is the kids spend time with the animals and bond. I’d like to explain it better but I think you get the point.

♥ top of the line treatment for all of us ;)

♥ Her pops ~ I looked her dad up on wikipedia. Her dad, Frank Helfer, wrote a few books and I cannot wait to read them. Here’s all the info about her dad’s books and him.

♥ must read book ♥

♥ Tana and I have had a couple of fans. We love our fans. We worry when they go over board. She’s been in magazines such as Teen, People and TV Guide. I haven’t.

♥ I worked with Tom Cruise. Hold your breath guys. The story is forth coming. Maybe.

I hope you enjoyed reading this post and are inspired to share it.

There were a whole lot of other things Tana and I talked about like how teachers have can make or break students. I thank God at the moment for the cool teacher who wrote ‘Excellent’ on my essay when I was ten. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

As always, blog writers write for comments. Please leave your two cents below. Actually, to me, your comments are even worth at least five cents. Check your mailboxes for your checks. ;)

Just a quick shout out to facebook saying thanks for reconnecting old friends. How wonderful is life?

Tom Cruise ♥ Julie Angelos ♥ George Clooney ~ Just hangin’ with da boyz.

Love my Oscars.

Me working with Tom Cruise - 1980

Look really close because that’s me walking in the background.

Ever since I moved to Italy and couldn’t see the Oscars live, my friends have been recording them and sending me a copy via a regular VCR cassette tape.

Now with the Internet, you get pretty much everything as it happens. On top of that, surprise, we saw the Oscars here in Italy on Sunday, March 8th – same day. :)

We all liked Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin. We thought the show was still too long. ~ for example some of the dancing bits. We loved seeing all of our favorite movie stars all dolled up. I swooned over George Clooney, Matt Damon, Meryll Streep and Helen Mirren.

Demi Moore is getting younger. We need her secret. It was hysterical on TV the following day here in Italy. They Italian news coverage said the Americans chose mostly American stylists and it showed.

They basically said the clothes sucked. My opinion was that they ALL look lovely, compared to me. I’m just a mom and a jr. high school teacher.

Sure, I’ll throw on a lipstick and brush my hair, but the I can’t remember the last time I got all dolled up with a long dress.

♥Tom Cruise told me this was his big break ~ his friend got sick, so they called him last minute.♥

Oh yes, actually I can. My dear friend Greg took me to a Christmas dinner party when I still lived in US about 16 years ago and I wore a long sleeveless velvety brown dress I got from the gap with black boots.

Contradictions. Love them.

My husband is so impressed by the fact that I worked with Tom Cruise in a film in 1980 BEFORE Tom made Taps, when he was STILL UNKNOWN. I met Tom when he told me with his OWN words,

This is my first film and my big break, because my friend got sick. Working with Tom Cruise, 1980

NOT only did my husband ask me to buy the dvd, he took out all of the connector cables from the garage so he could watch me up close on our wide screen TV. Even my two kids were pointing: Look there’s mom.

My girlfriends in high school can attest to all of this. I’m going to get the video up of it so you can see it and laugh with me and if you’d like. I will take a picture of my diary I wrote on the day we met by request only.

Tom and I worked five days together. There’s a lot more to the story but ONLY Tom and I will know what really happened those five days on set. :)

Love my readers.

I might just tell my sister the whole story too ~ as if she hasn’t heard it before. Usually, when I tell my Tom Cruise story people stop in their tracks.

Now unfortunately, the kids in school like other actors.
although I’m convinced Tom Cruise has a fan or two out there still.

There’s no doubt in my small mind however that Tom is incredibly talented. If you caught him in Steal Magnolia’s I think you just might agree.

I can see Gigi, Michelle, Suzanne, Michele and Lisa right now thinking, Oh, no she’s not going there is she? No, I’m not. I’m going to leave you all in suspense.

In fact, you can read all about blogging in my downloadable ebook Zero to Blog available here for $14.97 and at Lulu.com for a little bit more. Try to convince me to have a promotion because anyone who knows me knows I’m a push over.

Mom, can I watch TV? Yes, ok.
Mom, can I play outside? OK.
Hey mom, is it okay if my friends come over? Sure

I draw the line on eating on the couch or upstairs. I’d say I’m on the lenient side. I DO assign homework every class. Usually, I allow the kids some class time to get started though.

My blog is starting to really feel like a conversation around the coffee machine, so I’m going to get back to work. Have a great day.

As always, please leave a comment. It’s how us wee blog writers get paid.;)

Everyday something new. Today it’s Italy.

Please leave a comment below.

I was thinking about what makes this blog interesting and why there is growth and why I love it. I know it has to do with the reader, but I think it has to be about the creativity aspect. Every day something new. I am a teacher in my real life. In my blog life, I keep coming up with new ideas for you, like the ebook, the art gallery, the 43 new languages and all the great links.

Every day something new.

Sometimes, I cannot wait to get to my computer to see if I can make these ideas appear. I sketch out some plans, usually during History class. History class is intense. I have such a hard time studying history. It’s a series of wars, dates and conquests.

Maybe it’s a guys thing. I just can’t stand the fact that there is war in the world. If I don’t write about it maybe it won’t be true. Besides, you guys didn’t pop in here for a History lesson! We are covering World War II right now. Alliances, defectors. I feel like a defector at the moment for having left my beautiful United States of America for the wonderful and brilliant Italy.

One thing I miss from America is the sense of pride, innovation, medical advances and most of all team spirit.

The high schools in this country don’t have school sports. How crazy is that? Most kids participate in sports but they are not at the schools.

♥ I'm so proud of you.♥

When I am in front of the class, for example a couple of days ago I had an AWESOME class I got to teach.

One girl, bless her heart, raised her hand and told me she thought I was the best teacher in the school.

We did a music lesson, then a question answer about USA. They wanted to know about if it’s beautiful or not. If it’s like what they see in TV. Seeing how these kids will buy everything I say and it was dead silent, I didn’t want to influence them. I didn’t want to tell them how I find it absolutely wonderful, beautiful and all the things they probably would hope to hear.

In fact, I avoided the answer completely by pointing to a map and showing them where California is.

What isn’t so wonderful for me in USA was my broken heart and my broken family. I’ll give you a great example. One day I went home to Santa Monica after a six month long stint working in Paris, France and Munich, Germany. Europe.

I went home to a big and beautiful empty apartment in Santa Monica, California, right by the beach. Everything functioning, everything new, complete with remote control for the garage and the automatic car. Cool bike too.

Back to Santa Monica

After about four days of completely unwinding I found everybody had left me COMPLETELY alone. There was a complete absence of interaction with people. Maybe only in my mind. If I called someone, I would always have a good talk. On one hand, I find it fantastic the freedom that that kind of environment provides.

You can literally decide every day what you want to do. For me, it became more of a decision of how to fill the hours. I tried to plan each evening after work with a special friend or relative.

You hold my heart.♥

Still, while living here in Italy I find that is NEVER true. Call them wonderful, call them insistent, call them invasive or nosy, call them what you want, the Italians have opened their arms to me and never let me go. It’s the feeling that no matter what you do you have an open invitation. If you don’t go to the next social event I will be certain to get the call or email or facebook comment that says, Hey, where were you?

Perhaps I needed to give living in America more time. I dream of space. I dream of open fields. But for now, Italy holds my heart, holds my hand and guides me through my new journey.

Now it’s your turn. I’d like to hear about your life
Where are you joining me from? Have you ever dreamt about living abroad? Do you think your life could be different by changing physical places or do you think that no matter where you go, you bring yourself with you? Are people plants who need to grow where they are planted? Or or they free to take the road less travelled and see where life leads them?

Julie

Introducing my mom.

you're truly beautiful

Hey guys. My mom has a blog now showing off her artwork, so I’ll make this short but sweet. Click here.
