Christmas Music is in the Air

So I’m just going to start playing into the Christmas spirit with a fun light post. I’m endulging myself and my blog visitors.

Do you guys remember the song On the first day of Christmas?

Well, the countdown has begun. I like Christmas music. My favorite Christmas song is All I want for Christmas by Mariah Carey.

I’ve made a CD I play for the kids in the car on the way to school and work that includes Jingle Bells, White Christmas and all of the classics. The kids LOVE the Alvin and the Chipmunks version. I also like Jingle Bell Rock that was sung by Linday Lohan in Mean Girls.

There are so many beautiful songs for Christmas. What’s your favorite? I’d like to hear.

Have a happy day.

Julie

Nice to get away ~ nice to come home.

Hey guys,

Every Three Minutes

We got back from our second vacation. Boy are these kids in Italy spoiled when it comes to summer vacation. I spent the last two summers in California, so this is a new experience for me ~ that is, staying here in Italy. The kids have spent tons of time at the beach playing. Then they came home and we all left for the mountains for a week.

Believe it or not we still have a couple more vacations lined up our sleeves, but they are top secret. :) It looks like we are getting a much longer vacation than the states as school is slated to start September 15th.

I love coming home after being away. You get a fresh look at things. It’s peaceful and calm.

What I didn’t expect would happen is that da boyz would grow up over night. When they were littler, I heard my name called non stop round the clock. Then suddenly, seriously, from yesterday to today,

silence.

It’s a crazy silence. It’s beautiful and sweet, but boy do I miss them. They have been out playing with their friends and haven’t come home for any reason what-so-ever. I keep going outside and asking them if they are hungry. I have hamburgers ready for them in the oven. It’s so sad that we love our kids with all of our hearts and then they grow up.

My mom told me that all of my life. She said, you’ll see, one day. Now I see. So?! What’s the point? We did a good job? Yes, we did. Still, the silence is loud, the burgers are ready and today, now, at this moment, I miss my boyz calling me, bugging me, every three minutes.

Hi guys, welcome back. New visitors, welcome. You might be new here, so please make sure to add a bookmark, add me on facebook or follow me on twitter at jbuliesblog.

✩ ♥ ❀ be a better person ✩

I just now am relaxing down to write about my latest vacation days at the beach with my family, old and new friends. I spent twelve total days at Marina di Ravenna on the Italian Adriatic Coast. Also, I had four visitors come by to keep me and da boyz company that included two great friends from Bologna, and my husband and mother in law when they weren’t working.

How do you feel about camping? Do you like to have your vacation in a five star hotel, at the lake waterskiing, or do you prefer camping? I think camping for kids is a great experience. As adults, I think we get used to our comforts.

Since I walked into my home only three hours ago, I have what I call fresh eyes on the entire vacation. Even though we had a fantastic time, this is one of those vacations when you kiss the floor when you walk into your house.

all work and no play makes jb a dull boy ✿ ♫

I joked a couple of weeks ago because I said I won’t be too sad about not going to California this summer because I’m consoling myself going to the Italian Riviera. I got a couple of laughs out of that. Now I’m going to give you the entire story, the good, the bad, the heat.

The good.

I finished two books. Yay! I love to read. I finished The Power of Now by Eckhart Toole and The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. Both were excellent. I came home to some great news.

love and friendship have no limits. ╰☆╮

you inspire me ╰☆╮¤°.¸¸.´¯`»¸¸.·☆ Thx Tana!

For one, my friend Tana has dedicated a blog article to me and I love her for that, so sweet. Another friend of mine, Liz, bless her heart, sent me the film Julie & Julia because she knows I don’t get to see films here for months after they come out.

Next time, when I go on vacation, hopefully I won’t have to be without internet for five days. I didn’t bring my camera, because quite frankly I had enough on my mind caring for two rather small kids.

Okay. The trip.

We went to a place called Marina di Ravenna which is found straight east of here. You can drive it in about an hour. We stayed at my mother in law’s camp ground that is private. BUT there is NO running water in the camper, or better yet, no drainage. Well, there is running water, but I didn’t use it because I didn’t want to empty the containers by hauling waste. Yikes!

The GREAT parts.

I like to think of six impossible things before breakfast. ✿ ♫

I like to think of six impossible things before breakfast. ✿ ♫

We were walking distance to the beach that took no more than five minutes. My mother in law has a reserved umbrella set up with two chaise lounges available for the summer season.

Who is coming to keep me company?

The nonna is working so she has left the camp site to our complete disposition. That is so overwhelmingly nice of her.

Here in Italy, the kids have entertainment. The way it works is that you can leave your kids with counselors at the camp ground park 10 to noon and four to six. I never did though, except yesterday when my kids did some coloring.

In the evening around 9:00 p.m. there is music and dancing. The kids love this because they are free to roam around the camp ground. Literally, I think there were about fifty kids running around playing hide and seek. They found some cats. They exchanged t shirts. They made friends. They played endlessly.

The WORST part.

There was no running water. Or, as I said, I didn’t use the running water in the camper. That meant to brush our teeth we had to walk about three minutes down the gravel path to a common bathroom. Sure, it was super clean and organized but I just hated having people look at me while I brushed my teeth. I ended up brushing in the camper. Ugh.

It wasn’t so easy to get my kids to brush either.

Great

The Adriatic sea water was clean, salty ~ the air good for you. The kids got a little inflatable boat and spent hours upon hours playing in the light waves while I read.

Bad

There was too much sun and I don’t like being tan. I seriously don’t like being out in the sun too long. I stayed in the shade as much as possible worrying about my kids getting too much sun.

Great

Watching my boys being brothers. I cannot emphisize how happy that makes my mother’s heart. My little guys were playing billiards together, helping each other. Every time I look, they are together. We all spent HOURS on bikes. That was super cool because there was a shady bike path.

Overall

A nice Italian vacation on the coast? Well, why not. I liked it. I just have certain things I cannot live without, like internet, like my washer dryer, like running water, like a cool place to hang my hat.

Next time

Time share of course. I married a man with a time share. We still have two or three more weeks of vacation coming up and love my honey, we get four and five star treatment from here on in. Yay. We plan on going to the mountains to cool off and to Umbria that is just striking.

Well, thanks for reading, thanks for your comments.

My question to you is this. Camping? Can you take it? Does it build character? Best holiday? Worst holiday? Any stories you care to share are appreciated.

Did I say that summer started?

I take that back. We got a week off to refresh, reboot and restart. Well. Almost. I had four days off that truly were heaven. I spent them doing whatever my heart pleased while my two boys were outside playing with their friends and my husband was at work.

Thank you DustJacketAttic for the pic.

♥ behaving slash resting ♥

My husband by the way is an amazing cook if I haven’t mentioned that before. He made me the NICEST dinner last night that was so delicious, Italian, healthy and full of vitamin C. Want to know what? Potatoes, herbs and green peppers. I truly should have taken a picture for you guys but I think there are enough food blogs out there and I was famished.

After dinner I took a long walk run in the country. I took a few pictures about a month ago of the walk I take. Every time I go out there I keep thinking, wow, look how fast those vegis have grown. I have to hand it to the hard working farmers out here who have it down to a science.

I got my exam schedule today at school YIKES! It’s out of control. Seeing how I work for two schools, the administrators have to work out a schedule for me that allows me to follow all of my students. It’s going to be a tough next couple of weeks. They have me booked literally from morning to evening at two schools. Is that legal? I don’t think so.

Those who know me can attest to the fact that I am bad with appointments. It’s something stronger than me. I write down my appointments in two places in my agenda, then I add a reminder on my cell phone. None the less, even this week, I got TWO calls from meetings saying I was late and should have been there. Both times I told them I was On my way.

Strangely enough I managed to make both meetings before they started. Apparently there was a new calendar that had come out that I hadn’t seen. Oh well. Oops.

You?

Does your job involved living around a calendar? What’s your secret to keeping all your appointments? Do you write everything down? I know I kind of giggle when I miss appointments. I’m going to make all my appointments this week ~ if I could only remember where I left my agenda. :)

Thanks for visiting. Have a nice day. I appreciate your feedback.

Rain out ~ early morning, birds tweeting.

♥ How many times must I say I'm sorry? ♥

Spring in Italy is no doubt one of the most beautiful things I have witnessed. It’s the changing colors as if life is alive outside of you.

Today my son’s team is scheduled to play baseball. It looks like the game will be cancelled. Still, as a team, we have to drive over to the field, show up, so we can be marked present so we can turn around and go home. It’s not so fun considering it would be so nice to stay in today and watch the rain.

I’ve never liked driving in the rain. I grew up in California where it only rained about ten days a year. If it would rain I would look out the window and literally have to convince myself it would be ok to go out. Sometimes I wouldn’t be so convincing.

As I get older, I’m getting more used to it though. Maybe I’m a little bit more adventurous. I certainly WAS fearless when I was younger.

Do you think people get more fearful as they get older?

I’m not so certain. Perhaps it depends on the day.

So much has been going on in the last few days that I feel completely spent. I get a lot of encouragement from friends as I approach projects, like writing, translating, teaching, help organizing the May 1st party, and painting. But today, all I feel like doing is nothing.

♥ You're beautiful. Seriously ♥

Do you ever feel that way? Just like doing nothing?

With so much on my plate, it’s easier to disappear into my words and into my thoughts.

Last week I decided to close the blog for a couple of days. My students at school said well done Prof. It’s so true. You write a blog and suddenly your life is public. Well not all of it is public. It’s ok to have a down day too. A day of rest.

Nulla si crea, nulla si distrugge.

At least my blog and life is available for commentary. As you guys know I don’t take criticism well at all, so when someone says something negative about the blog I think well then forget it. Why am I doing it? For you? or for me?

Sometimes things just seem to want to create themselves. Like spring. Like children. They grow out of nothing. God is so creative.

♥Today I will very consciously do one thing at a time.♥

There’s a beautiful saying in Italian that says ‘nulla si crea nulla si distrugge’, which means nothing can be created and nothing can be destroyed. To me, it means anything I have created can easily be destroyed.

The opposite is always true. They are all just words, recycled reused, turned around and tweaked to make new meanings and then to clear away with a swipe of an eraser, the tap of a delete key. There they go. Goodbye.

Oh Julie you certainly are being philosophical today, aren’t you? Yes. well. People aren’t just straight forward all the time, are they? What you see is what you get? Hmmm. Perhaps. I think there is more.

Not like donkey on Shrek who says we all have layers like an onion. The onion layer is a bit cliche. I can’t describe them.

Multi-faceted? I don’t have a label for how I’m feeling today. Today, I’m changing the name of the blog just for today to Julie’s blog. Not so fun today. No nicknames today. It’s raining. It’s spring. It’s Italy.

Julie

243 days to overnight success. Thx Chris at AONC.

I’m heading towards a new milestone on my blog and it’s my 6,000 viewer mark. It sort of seriously freaks me out. Who ARE you people? ;) I wonder when it will REALLY freak me out. A million? 7 trillion?

Numbers. That’s all they are. Or is there something more?

♥You're an angel.

I spend a lot of time in the class room talking about grammar, parts of speech, adjectives and motivation. I found after fifteen years of teaching that not too many teachers actually brought up subjects like how to get good grades, developing good study habits, LIKING or even LOVING learning and one of my favorites, brushing and flossing.

Maybe that is why I started a blog, so I could spend more time thinking, writing and talking about what I find more important than grammar ~ inspiration, motivation and becoming a better person.

If you like what you are learning you are going to study harder. It’s just a theory. What do you think? Do you agree?

Like This!

Adjectives and numbers.

One of my friends asked me how I was going to measure the success of my blog. Well, define success. Is it when I make my life better somehow, your life better? Is it when I make a certain sum of money? Is it when I get a lot of compliments or comments on a post?

Or, is it when someone notices a small detail like having a band aid on my finger in my video? {if you answered yes here, please give yourself two points and a coffee break.}

How do you measure success?

Is it when you have fallen in love? Is it when you have a certain amount of money in your bank account? Is it when you are able to travel somewhere you have always wanted to go?

Or is it losing weight? Stopping smoking? To me, success is stopping, enjoying the moment and living in gratitude. For some reason, I always got caught in the belief system of needing and wanting more. I worked, and worked hard until I obtained my next goal. For some reason, there is always another goal right around the corner.

♥The gift of the blessing.

Lately I read in a book by Gregg Braden, called IQ Matrix, that all words are just words given to us to label things as children and we just accept them. I also learned lately that the opposite of whatever we believe can be proven true. So what is the truth? A collective consciousness? Is it when we have the house, the car and the family?

He also wrote some incredible insights about our DNA and how we are all interwoven in a divine, sort of holigraphic type way.

I think happiness is when we finally stop looking outside of ourselves for and accept ourselves exactly how we are; creatures of God, with our defects and our glory. Believe it kids, it’s self love at it’s finest.

I had earlier called my blog Serendipity because it means an unexpected result, I think. Well, what I did not expect when I started this blog was that I would get an extremely supportive and loving audience to write to. I didn’t expect I would find a way to show off my art work.

I didn’t expect that I would be making and sustaining more new friendships than I have in a long time. In a way it’s a bit sad that our society so openly embraces internet relationships when what truly matters are the people you have in front of you.

I didn’t expect I would be able to provide the tools necessary to good or great people to help their ideas become even better while some truly flourished.

Somewhere along the lines, my real life and my virtual life are becoming blurred. A teacher called me out of class today while I was teaching. It was super strange and out of the blue. She had heard that kids were making fun of my accent.

I was six inches away from her face looking at her eyes and thinking what is she saying? Has she called me out because she cares? Because she wants to know me? Because she is reprimanding me? Because she is praising me?

For goodness sakes I was in the middle of a lesson, half way through the sentence on the blackboard: A lorry is bigger than a van. That sentence must be more important, right? Or is it the face to face contact?

I think it’s communication. It’s an attempt to make our current situation a little bit better by talking. That’s our job, right, Chass? Just to make this world a little bit more beautiful?

You truly ARE angels.

I love that I have someone to write to. I love that you share. I love that you have become part of my life, virtual or real. They are all just words anyway.

Julie

Now it’s your turn.

I’d like to know how you evaluate success? What are the labels that society has given you that you just don’t agree with? Do you think the teacher pulled me outside to praise me or to reprimand me? What’s your view on virtual vs. real life communication?

Mostly, what kind of things can you and I do to make this world just a little bit better or more beautiful?

Thanks for reading. Comments are not only appreciated, they are paid. ;)

To put the past in the past, completely, now and forever.

Thanks LousBoosandshoes.

Sometimes ♡ You have to immerse yourself in an unfamiliar world to truly understand your own.

I deleted my last post because I thought it was totally insane. I learned that you should never write anything in the middle of the night because we think we are lucid but IN REALITY we aren’t. I reread my post this morning, lowered my head in shame and hit delete faster than you can say Hey Mom, what did they put in her Jello?

I went on over to facebook and tried to let my friends know what in the world I was thinking because I had some pretty funny comments in my in box.

It’s one of those days where I think each key on my keyboard should be labeled delete. That way I might stop embarrassing myself with my lama rama ramblings as my friend Pam so aptly calls them.

Back to reality.

It’s spring out here in Italy and the flowers are blooming. Being from So Cal it’s crazy beautiful. It’s the moment that I wish was all year long. I feel like writing.

You da bomb

Well if that wasn’t a bomb of a last class I don’t know what was. I had three hours of teaching today and if you aren’t a teacher you MIGHT not get this but I had a bunch of kids complaining about their grades.

What the mind can conceive the body can achieve.

It got to me because I think of myself a generous teacher so I don’t take to critcism well. One girl wrote the following sentence in English and she wondered why I didn’t give her a good grade.

She had put the following words in order:
discover / will / life / on / No, / they / scientists / won’t / Mars.

She came up with
Will discover mars life of scientists, no me won’t.

I’m chalking it up to being the last hour of the week and we all were tired.

Counter Point

My other two hours were AWESOME. We laughed and smiled. We spent about an hour translating motivational sentences like like Take 100% Responsibility for your Lives, Stop being a victim, Accept and Love your Body, Dream, etc. I think they liked it because they listen, smile and their eyes look alive.

Another cup of delicious fresh brewed blog copy.

I’ve been actively participating in blog discussions. One of my favorites so far is Barbara’s blog called bloggingwithoutablog. She has set her site up to be an active classroom. It’s fun. I love the people in there. One guy just cracks me up with his post called North Dakota Doesn’t Exist.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. I knew it was a myth.

I also follow regularly the blogs you see to the right on the sidebar called Reccomended Reads.

Man On Road – Italian Translation Cracks Me Up

I was driving on the freeway a couple of days ago and there was an overhead sign in GIGANTIC orange flashing lights that said Man On Road. I just had to laugh. What in the world does that mean? I think they meant Men at Work. I don’t think there was a man on the road because I saw the same sign at least three times.

Thank you for sharing my blog journey with me friends.

Lupi Parents and the Mayor, the Honorable L. Minganti

♥ Hi guys, welcome back. New readers welcome.♥

I just got finished uploading the pictures from yesterday’s game on facebook. I’ll try to get some up here too, but you know what? It takes longer, I have to upload them one at a time. So I invite you to pop over there and check them out. Click on this link to see more pictures. If you’re not a friend, by all means, add me.

The game went great. We all had a fun time. Frankly speaking I’m happy it’s over because it took a lot of planning. I know it seems like something simple, but it wasn’t. We had to coordinate everything from seats, to hot dogs, to popcorn, to clothes, to lights, to electricity, to having a fridge, to raking out the earth and cutting the grass. We had to buy benches, paint others, you name it.

Coaches of Excellence.

♥Love our team.

Everyone came and had a good time. Not too much to report, actually. We won. We played against Castenaso, final score 19-18.

The Minerbio Wolves (Lupetti)

Just wanted to say a special thanks for all of the parents, friends and many sponsors who came together to make this event possible. After the game, we had a bbq, danced to great music and had a laugh.:)

Our mayor, the Honorable Lorenzo MInganti, came too so that was cool. Thanks for coming and showing support for our youth and sports.

Thanks for reading, guys. Have a nice day. You’re invited to our next game. Remember, sometimes, the simplest things in life are the most rewarding.

♥ Full Swing Spring ♥

You might be new here, so please make sure to add a bookmark now, follow me on facebook or follow me on twitter.

♥ Less is more. ♥

Hey guys, welcome back. You might have noticed I’m jokingly running for President of the World Wide Web. I say why not? Haven’t seen an elected President, yet. Someone has to do it.

My friend, Michelle, seconded the nomination, Tana gave her support, so did Rose. Now I just need to be voted it.

Lots going on on the blog. Lots. If any of you follow me on facebook, you might have seen that on one day I spoke to people from all of the world. Love that. Wonderful. Kind of scary. I had one friend who’s had robbers at their house on Easter Sunday with two people wounded at gunpoint. That’s a new one to me. I didn’t know how to handle the information as I’m just a little blog over here, not the news. Prayers going out to them.

Love to read :)

Later, I had a chat up with some friends online. We are trying to decide if the ipad is a valid purchase. My vote is yes. Considering I’m a teacher and you can read millions of books using the ipad with a backlight ~ it’s awesome. I’ve also been an Apple fan since 1986.  I’m a push over for technology.

I had a meeting with one of my favorite students today who is a clothes designer, AnnaRita N. Her multi national corporation now is worldwide. Their showroom is 5,000 square meters. I was lost and speechless. I came home and took a nice long bath since fashion is all a different world than education.

Still, I remember the year or so I spent going over there. they are some of the nicest people I have come across, so down to earth. When I got married they not only showered me with gifts, they came to my wedding too ~ the happiest day of my life.

♥ Believe in yourself ♥ Heal your past ♥

There are moments when my writing is on fire and I make myself laugh. Others where I question my sanity. I still love to write, however.  Judging by the visitors who continue to drop in and read, something must be going right.

What is spring like in Italy?

Yesterday our Italian teacher called in sick so I had to sub for two hours. It was our first day back to school after the Easter break. The kids had no homework to correct and I wasn’t left any instructions as what to teach them. I decided to take them all into the park outside of the school. They loved it.

When or if you ever teach a class, you walk in the room and you know immediately if it is going to be a good class or not. You just get a certain feeling. This class is one of those classes. All of them are smart and sweet. When I walk in the all like to chant,

Julie, Julie, ca va, Julie?

I’m not French, but that’s what they say. All together, it’s quite sweet and endearing.

At the park, I let them rummage through my pencil case where the girls found clear nail polish. So while the boys played soccor, the girls and I had a chat and painted our nails.

One girl brought me daisies strung together. It was truly a sweet day. One girl got a HUGE ice cream that was on a cone, colored pink and white. It just looked like spring, just like youth. One girl gave a look that only teenagers know.

I think that’s one reason I love to be around kids, I feel like a kid myself.

The baseball jackets have arrived and my son’s team looks great in them. We start a new tournament tomorrow, practice later today.

Chocolate or vanilla?

Kisses to all of you for visiting. Oh, and if you remember the story about the scholarship for my 8th graders, we got three entries in and should know soon. I’ll keep you posted.

Thanks for reading. Have a great day. Leave a comment. :)

jbulie’s blog helps friend start blog earning 800 new visitors in first 2 days.

Isn't it just great to see a friendly face after a long time?

I don’t think I can find one person out there who can argue that the launch of Tana’s blog, From Kenya with Love, last week was a complete success.

This is a clear case of the student jumping leaps and bounds over the teacher. That’s what I mean when I say that the learning is in the doing. I learn from you. It’s hard to explain, but here goes.

A couple of weeks ago Tana won a copy of my book Zero to Blog on my facebook giveaway. She told be that before she got to page 53 she had published her blog.

That’s when the journey began. The two of us have been laughing, publishing, growing and sharing. I hope you are joining us for the fun and thinking about how you too are going to start your blog.

Why did Tana’s blog get 800 visitors in the first two days it was up?

I’ll tell you exactly why.

1) She read my downloadable book Zero to Blog.
2) She took a risk.
3) She’s funnier than heck, sometimes silly too.
4) She tells REAL stories from the heart that are changing lives.

Can we all just have a group hug and say, well done?

laughed so hard

In my cool skype interview with her that lasted a couple of hours I found out some truly amazing information about what it is like to live in Africa.

I think she might have learned something about living in Italy.

Here’s the roundup.

♥ Some people pay $100,000 bucks for a Safari.

♥ It’s dangerous as you want it to be. Like when I moved to Italy and everyone said watch out for your purse. They say the same about Americans. It’s just fear guys. Don’t let it stop you from living.

♥ Oh ~ love you.

Like any country you learn where to go and where not to, there is crime everywhere in the world. That should not stop you.  Just learn how to protect yourself, listen to your instincts.  You get to know yourself even better by putting yourself out there. It is an amazing world with colourful people and wildlife.

♥ My sweet long blonde haired blue eyed goddess, single mom of three equally beautiful daughters had a charmed life that I think it is fair to say we can all envy. She GREW up with a lion raised in captivity, named Zamba.

She also suffered the heart ache and loss that comes with that intense love, I can only imagine.

♥ We spoke about how wonderful animals are for therapy, especially used for kids in schools. The way it works is the kids spend time with the animals and bond. I’d like to explain it better but I think you get the point.

♥ top of the line treatment for all of us ;)

♥ Her pops ~ I looked her dad up on wikipedia. Her dad, Frank Helfer, wrote a few books and I cannot wait to read them. Here’s all the info about her dad’s books and him.

♥ must read book ♥

♥ Tana and I have had a couple of fans. We love our fans. We worry when they go over board. She’s been in magazines such as Teen, People and TV Guide. I haven’t.

♥ I worked with Tom Cruise. Hold your breath guys. The story is forth coming. Maybe.

I hope you enjoyed reading this post and are inspired to share it.

There were a whole lot of other things Tana and I talked about like how teachers have can make or break students. I thank God at the moment for the cool teacher who wrote ‘Excellent’ on my essay when I was ten. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
