Hello fellow blog friends and readers, how are you?
Today I’d like to talk about market trends and how our lives are changing since the introduction of the internet.
One of my absolute favorite topics is economics. It’s a difficult subject to teach and a difficult subject to understand until you come across a good teacher who explains economics to you in simple terms.
In fact, I remember asking one of my students who had just got her high school diploma in economics what that term meant and she was stumped.
I teach English so I certainly wouldn’t qualify as an economics instructor but I do consider myself well enough informed in our world to at least listen to your opinions.
The person who best explained what economics means to me in a simple way was one of my professors at college. He drew a Cartesian diagram with an x and an arrow pointing right and a y and an arrow pointing up. You might have seen these in your math classes.
My teacher drew a line on one side that represented the availability of coffee beans and on the other side the price and explained that as availability goes down, the price of coffee goes up. That made sense to me. Then I did some more research into what economics means and basically it means that in every agreement there is an exchange: time for money, this for that.
Correct me if I am wrong! I appreciate your comments.
Aside from a rather long introduction into my post that I’ve called market trends, I am going to attempt here to discuss what I, Julie Angelos, blog writer believe are the major market trends happening in our world today based solely on my opinion and no actual market research.
I have categorized them into seven major categories: travel, buying, photagraphy, communication, reading, music, blogging and internet.
I think people are using their computers to make their own reservations to travel. I think a lot of people still rely on good travel agents to help them with their plans but I feel that there is a major shift away from using agents.
I believe that people are choosing to buy online especially when it comes to books and movies. I think there more people are buying things online that are specifically made –that is if they need a particular size of an object.
For example, I recently bought a little piece of plastic to put under my shower so the shower wouldn’t leak. I think I spent under $4 in less than ten minutes with ebay. On the other hand, I spent a few days, many hours and numerous phone calls for the same aim to no avail.
In other words, there will be a shift away from retailers and an increase of peer-to-peer marketing. My friend makes _____. Add what ever word you like in the space. Most likely you will link to your them or shoot them over an email.
I think people will eventually not have paper photographs and will continue to live share their pictures digitally. The same goes for newspapers as they will disappear as most people I know read their newspapers online.
I believe that there will be a trend away from cable networks for shows people love and people will increase watching TV on demand or online.
Kids in the future will do like my kids to and that is play games online across cultures. When they want to see a video they choose as they like.
5. Cell phones
I think that people will eventually cut themselves away from landlines and a continued increase to use cell phones.
I believe most people prefer texting to voice calls.
Everyone I know still defends their books but I tell you, I love my backlight when reading. My guess is that people will eventually prefer ipads or book readers, call them what you may. Although I do see a merge between the cell phone and a book reader. I can’t see why you need to carry two devices around.
I think record labels will eventually disappear. I think that musicians will sell directly to their public through sources like tunes. They probably already do.
8. The little guy
The little person, that is me, that is you sitting there reading this now, is going to become more important as a resource of creativity, innovation, information and entertainment relying less on major movie production companies.
Internet will become super fast and more widely available at a lower cost.
Finally, I believe people will opt for healthy choices and clean energy. That’s it! Those are my forecasts for the future with our changing times. I’d love to hear what you think.
