How to increase blog traffic — 10 tips and tricks from jbulie’s blog.

If you want your blog or website to succeed — love doing it.

Easy.

I’m sharing with you what I’ve been doing over here to attract visitors and increase blog traffic.

Don’t believe the people who say they get a million visitors a day — or even thousands. They are like kids in a candy shop, typing in numbers. Learn from doing first hand, and ask a blogger friend.

Here are the steps you can take to make your site grow.

1. Get to know your readers. Share.

Spend a lot of time looking at your stats feature and try to understand where your readers are coming from. A lot of my readers have become friends. Thanks guys. A lot are new, welcome. I’ve also found having a stats counter installed helps.

I’ve learned that they come from all over the world and different backgrounds and ages.

From Pauline to Helen Gurley Brown: She is an unsung, deliciously sybaritic, and downright cheeky feminist heroine. She will be sorely and dearly missed.

2. Participate in comments and conversations.

One of the best ways of inviting visitors to your site participate in conversations in the comment sections of blogs you like reading. Ever since I started my blog, I’ve learned a great deal in the comments section of articles.

3. Write good content.

My highest ranked day was when I wrote a piece about motivation and being a better person.

4. Write from the heart.

Talk as if you were speaking to a few good friends. Write about what you care about people are going to be supportive.

5. Make it a goal.

I have also made it a goal to have a lot of visitors so in my free time I read as many articles I can on the subject.

6. Use your real voice.

When I write I like to picture I’m either standing infront of my peers and explaining things simply. Or, I try to imagine I’m writing my sister or mom and telling them how simple it is to make your business grow.

Wishing you flowers today.

7. Enjoy

You guys might have noticed how much I love to play around with my readers. I enjoy writing. I write to share, to learn and to enrich the lives of the people around me.

8. Add extra value, then go the extra mile.

Using the principles explained by Napolean Hill, the more you give, the more you receive. It’s so easy to get great feedback — just give of yourself.

You are one person writing, right? Well, there are lots of people reading so the ratio is just immense. Give of yourself and you get back so much from some many people. I strive to constantly go the extra mile and provide excellent quality in all my endeavors.

9. Be inspiring.

You can be inspiring, funny wonderful, full of life. If you don’t believe in yourself, well then I do. I know you got this. You can do it!

We all have the ability to push ourselves to learn and make our lives better. You can do it. I believe in you.

10. Pay it forward.

Without my visitors, I’d just be here talking to my cat. She’s a good listener.

In the mean time, I am giving away a free traffic building mini course here. I would love to see you there.

Please answer these questions:

  1. Do you have a business, is it online?
  2. What makes your heart happy?
  3. Do you have a blog? Do you enjoy writing.

Thanks.

  1. You go, Julie! I have had so little time online lately because of my hours at work. I picked up a ton of extra hours over February and March because of hubby’s unemployed status. Luckily for us, and all the other men who were temporarily let go from the job, they were all called back to work two weeks ago.

What this means is that I can sleep better at night…and I can get back to my blog and back into my kitchen, since I can go back to my normal part-time hours.

That being said, I have missed checking in on you and reading all of your updates. I’m getting caught up slowly with all of my favorite bloggers and getting to use my oven again!

  2. I’ll add one more:

    11. Take care of your writers!

I don’t do as well at this as I should. Working on doing better.

    Will be in touch, -dave

    1. David, Why didn’t I think of that! That’s exactly what you are supposed to do is leave a room for the 11th comment from your readers. OK, let’s see if we can get anyone to follow suit and add their 11th trick or tip to get visitors to their blog, website or business.

I know for my sister on facebook she leaves RANDOM comments about funny things in her jello and gets at least 10 comments every time. I’m just trying to stay up with her!

      Julie

Friends: What would you add as your 11th trick or tip?

  3. And make it so different old doctors put you on their blogroll. Happy Easter kid, and keep on writing.

    Dr. B

    1. Keep me motivated Dr. You’re a good doctor checking in on your patience. I mean patients. I mean blog writers. Thx! 🙂

  4. My 11th would be try to include a link, the result I have found is that the people I link to always visit, leave a comment, and often link to my blog in their post too. Must be my PhD training – always use supporting evidence!

    Enjoy the journey.

  5. Thank you Julie…you’re inspiring!!! I especially liked what you said about writing from the heart. I think most people read personal blogs rather than the commercially driven sites because they want to hear from a friend rather than a paid journalist.

Somehow hearing from a blogger friend is a whole lot more interesting. It’s also nice to have a tiny glimpse into your life and see that even though we all live far apart and are from different cultures….we’re basically the same on the inside 🙂

    1. You are so right BJ.

I am still surprised at the support that comes from fellow bloggers. We are writers. I hope we are using our words to help each other. I still check my blog all of the time waiting for the mean comments that never come. I shouldn’t say never, one guy called me a dork for writing in the third person. I know. I resemble that comment.

Also I agree with you that blogging is the new journalism. Keep your blogging pictures and info coming. I love having an insider’s eye on Singapore.

  6. This is great advice! I try to really engage with my readers and write articles from the heart. I just started a weekly feature “Friday Favorites” where I can highlight some of my favorites reads for that week. I thought this was a good way to give back to other bloggers. Italian Mama Chef featured you this week on her Friday Favorites!

    1. Hi Tina,

So nice to meet you. Thanks for stopping by. Yes, your Friday Favorites is a great idea. In fact, I first visited Michelle at Italian Mama chef, then all the blogs on her list. I think us wee bloggers love reading and writing. I see you certainly do. I don’t know if I could manage a Friday favorite though since I can’t manage a calendar. I do like blog lists though.

      Julie

  7. Great advice. I write for others’ blogs, but only recently started focusing on my blog. One of the common tricks I do for other blogs, though, is to create a weekly round-up. It shows the people who are commenting on your blog that you really are paying attention to what’s on theirs, as well… Even if you didn’t have time to comment that week.

    1. Thanks Jessica S.

Creating a weekly round up sounds like a great idea. I have seen other blogs who offer posts based on days of the week. If that works, then great. I think it’s important to just believe in yourself and keep on going. Sometimes it is a leap of faith ~ someone has to.

      Well done!

      Julie

  8. Great tips!
I’m jealous that you live in Bologna. I had a great time there when I visited for about four days in June. I actually survived climbing up the Asinelli Tower.
Have you eaten a pizza at Pizza Casa near the university?

    1. Thanks Fidel! It looks like you get to see more of the world than I do. I do admit that living in Italy is just beautiful yet nothing like they make it out in films. I think one of the reasons I live here besides of course my lovely family, is figuring out how this country functions! It’s still a mystery to me.

      🙂

  9. That right there is helpful advice. Keep doing what you do. I’ve been a silent stalker of yours for too long ~love your blog.

  10. Hi. Wassup Julie? Hows you? I have just stambled on your blog and i must say you’ve got great ideas. I’m a new blogger and greatly inspired by the free advice here. I’ll stay in the loop. Cheers.

    Tony

  11. Hi,wassup julie, hows you?i have just stambled on your blog and i must say you’ve got great ideas…am a relatively new blogger and greatly inspired by the free advice here…al stay in the loop.cheers.

  12. Just found your blog by clicking from one blog to another blog! I’ve only been blogging for a few weeks and I get so excited every time I get a new comment 🙂 Thanks for the above advice – It’s great to read about how other bloggers write and how their blogs evolve.

  13. Search engines and blog services love regular updates. It’s very likely that we will get targeted traffic from search engines if we post regularly.

  14. What a fabulous post! I understand why your blog is so popular– you’re very inspiring 🙂

    1. Ha ha! So popular. You make me laugh. I don’t know how to define popular. I have good days and bad ones just like the rest of the world. Thank you so much compliment though! I’ll take it!

  15. Well you’ve had loads of comments on this post and I’ve had one on mine so you’re clearly doing something well which I’m not. I shall have to study this closely. But well done. I always enjoy your blog and thats the main thing.

  16. I am about to launch my new work site Wise Ears….I am kinda, sorta, scared to get started to have distracted myself…I do not know why because i love my other blogs and have done the same for them…I guess I know I need word of mouth advertising to get going…sell myself and my skill aargh
I needed to read this – it is just full of good tips for starting again.

Hope you will come over to Patriciaswisdom right now, I am sharing a young woman’s story about juvenile diabetes and a person at the meeting I was at said she would give $1 to Lianna’s fundraiser for every visitor to my blog post between now and Sunday night….FYI…a way to help her with an easy click?
    Thank you

  17. Julie, thank you so much for your blog and posts. I’ve just discovered this blog and am already in love. I love blogging and discovering new blogs. The trouble is that I still have such a hard time getting readers and followers despite my commenting and heartfelt posts. I really want to join the blogging community. I am continually inspired and hope to do the same by my blogging. Besides my most recent post, I think my blog is honest and overall uplifting. This is one of the main reasons that I post- to give people some comfort and let them know that someone else is going through the same thing.
So check out my blog and if you like it, a shout out would be lovely!

  18. I thought of another one! You can write a blog post and call it the same as mine. I think it might work. You say what works for you. Just a thought.

    Julie

  19. Thanks Julie! Twice now, your post has been exactley what I needed right at the time. I’ll be referring back to this one quite a bit.

  20. Wonderful insights you have here. I could apply this to my blog as I am looking for some free ways to drive more traffic. Thanks for sharing.

  21. Thanks for the tips Julie..I really do like your blog 🙂 I look forward to reading more posts from you and I hope 2013 is an great year for you! 🙂

  22. Always nice to see signs of our activity on the Blogoshere. As a matter of interest, my stats remain fairly low, so I must be doing something wrong Ha Ha Ha

  23. I’m not sure if I agree with you seeing that you have 33 comments and 21 likes on the your most recent article — I’d say you are doing just fine. Thanks for stopping in. I appreciate the visit.

  24. What stat counter do you use? I found you from a wp forum question from 2010! Not sure if you’ll want to approve this and make it public and that’s totally ok! (I understand!) but I wanted to ask you how it’s going for you. I’m wondering if I should move over to wordpress.org. Now that I’m really working on my blog, I really love it!! I had no idea I’d love it so much. 🙂 It’s so fun and it’s true what you wrote on one of your posts.. the blogging community is so supportive! It looks like you have a couple of years experience so you’d be a good one to ask. If there is a way I could contact you in an email.. let me know.. THANKS!

    1. Thanks for the visit.
I use statcounter.com. I particularly like looking at the map page, but generally read the recent page visitor information. It’s amazing to see people clicking over here from all over the world. I’m getting an education on names of places.

  25. Your posts always make me smile. More than anything, if I’ve failed to do so already, I wanted to wish you a fun filled and rewarding 2014. You have been such a loyal reader of my Blog, and its more appreciated than I can say

  26. Thanks Julie!! I think I might atually be ready…hmmm….well…maybe not, but reading your blog is ALWAYS inspiring!!

  27. All your 10 tips are good… and necessary ! Participating in comments & conversations has turned out to be one of the most time-consuming but inspiring things about this whole blogging project 🙂 I’m learning, learning… Thanks Julie!
